When Shawwal Begins...

Assalaam O Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah,

As time passes by, and the month of Ramadan ends, it always leave me with the thirst of more and more fun and peace of Ramadan. But it surely doesn't end here... and we get another chance... to do as much Ibadah as we want, and yet to enjoy the taqwa, tranquility, food, and lots of other pleasures that we only get by fasting for our Allah.

I've always heard how rewarding it is to Fast for 6 Days in the month of Shawwal... and have followed this Sunnah without knowing the exact significance of it.

This time I got a chance to do some research on it, Alhumdulillah... and I am sharing with you what I found out.

Fasting six days of Shawwaal after the obligatory fast of Ramadaan is Sunnah Mustahabbah, not waajib. It is recommended for the Muslim to fast six days of Shawwaal, and in this there is great virtue and an immense reward. Whoever fasts these six days will have recorded for him a reward as if he had fasted a whole year, as was reported in a saheeh hadeeth from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).

Abu Ayyub al-Ansari narrated that Allah’s Messenger (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said: "He who fasts Ramadan, and six of Shawwal, it will be (in terms of rewards) as if he fasted a whole year."
[Muslim, at-Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, Ahmad, Ibn Majah]

SubhanAllah!! What more can one ask for??

Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“The first thing for which people will be brought to account on the Day of Resurrection will be their salaah (prayer). Our Lord, may He be glorified and exalted, will say to His angels – although He knows best – ‘Look at the salaah of My slave, whether it is complete or incomplete.’ If it is perfect, it will be recorded as perfect, and if something is lacking, He will say, ‘Look and see whether My slave did any voluntary (naafil) prayers.’ If he did some voluntary prayers, [Allaah] will say, Complete the obligatory actions of My slave from his voluntary actions.’ Then all his actions will be dealt with in a similar manner.”
(Narrated by Abu Dawood).

I pray that Allah gives us all strength and courage to keep the fasts of Shawwal, and complete this Sunnah. Ameen

Lailatul Jazaa

It has been the practice of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) that he would not sleep in the night preceding the day of Eidul-fitr. This night has been named in a Hadith “Lailatul Jazaa” - the night of reward.

It means Allah bestows his rewards to those who have spent the month of Ramadan abiding by the dictates of Shari’ah, and all their prayers in this night are accepted. Therefore, it is desirable to perform nafl prayers in this night.

The Propet (PBUH) is reported to have said: “Who ever stands in worship in the nights preceding the two Eids expecting rewards from his heart will not die when the other hearts will die. (Ibn Majah)

To benefit from this opportunity, one should perform as much worship in this night as he can, and should pray for all his needs and desires.

Mufti Taqi Usmani

I thought I'll just share this information with you.... lots of us dont remember what this Night is for, and stay busy in preparing for Eid, going out, shopping, or wasting time at home while listening to songs and chatting and putting henna on hands etc. Therefore we lose all the reward that is promised to us By Allah...!!

To avail the most from this night, it is said to say Takbeer from evening till the morning of Eid. May Allah forgive us and accept our fasts, and reward us for our good deeds.
Ameen.
